Ranger 16-year-old Grade Pinto/Paint Pony

Ranger is a compact but confident mare that measures 13.2 hands.  Her impeccable manners make her perfectly suited to be an educator.  A very sensitive mare, Ranger propels learning in areas of high sensitivity, trust/relationship building, claiming healthy boundaries and expectations around personal space!  Ranger is an amazing EAL teacher!

We are lucky to be Rangers' home!

Ghost - Early 20s-year-old Quarter Horse

Ghost had a very successful career as a competition horse, earning a lot of money for many people, until he didn't.  When he was abused repeatedly for his lack of success by his human handlers and owners, he shut down.  He has come into my life to enjoy his retirement. He offers opportunities to people to consider the commodification of horses and the long-term effects of systemic abuse.

Cupcake - 12-year-old Miniature Horse

As sweet as her name, Cupcake is very curious and social.  She's an explorer, demonstrating that she loves learning new things and moving her body! She enjoys long forest hikes, has seemingly limitless energy, and is so very inquisitive.  Cupcake's diminutive size of 32" high at the withers (shoulders) makes her a perfect partner for people who are horse-shy, nervous, unfamiliar, or novice to equines.

Susie - 6-year-old Miniature Mare

Susie is learning her world, very confident around the other horses, and building her confidence and trust with humans. Some of Susie's body language and behaviours are consistent with a horse that hasn't had much consistency.  Like humans, horses need certain elements of routine and calm to develop confidence that they are safe.  Over the last few years with us, we have sought to build Susie's confidence by providing her with enrichment opportunities and lots of love.  Susie has now begun her EAL career, showcasing what it is like to be a young and learning horse.  Susie, like Cupcake, is a teeny, 32" tall horse that can bring a sense of ease to horse-shy humans :)

Loki and Thor

8-month-old Norwegian Fjord Colts

Baby horses are fascinating to observe.  Loki and his brother Thor came to us this past October.  Every day is an array of new learning experiences for the boys, and though they will not be actively contributing to programs until they are 5 years of age, observations of both Loki and Thor will provide insights to participants.

Sherry Theuerkauf - EAL Coach/Facilitator

A forever student and horsewoman with 40 years of equine experience,  Sherry's continued studies and coursework inform many aspects of the experiential learning model at Equine Arts.

Participants guide their explorations at each session, facilitated by Sherry and led by the equine team.  She loves to explore the mysteries of the natural world with clients.  The quiet environment at the forest farm and the unrushed pace allow for moments of incredible wonder.

She is passionate about meditation, the practice of compassionate witnessing, unification, collaboration, co-creation, joy-making, and peace. Guided by the philosophy of 'seeing the joy in the everyday and holding gratitude toward simple experiences'.

After over two decades working in corporate, not-for-profit, government, and social service sectors, and then five years as the owner/operator of Rural Wonders Equine Facilitated Learning in Alberta, in 2020, Sherry and her family relocated to Prince George, BC.

Sherry is excited to welcome you to a place where, on the smallest scale and with even the smallest horses, the mightiest discoveries happen!

Furry Pup Support Team

Steve Irwin  10-yr-old Great Pyrenees/Lab Mix

Steve is a nighttime guard dog and a daytime cuddler.  A very sensitive dog, he always likes to try to do his best, and does not like drama.  He has a very tender heart and has worked as a reading support dog for children.

Jack   7-year-old Black Lab Cross

Jack and Steve love to do nighttime predator control on the forest farm.  They help keep a firm boundary of the property, ensuring timber wolves, coyotes, and black bears do not encroach too close to the house.  In the daytime, they can often be found snoozing or supervising Sherry.

Tucker  7-yr-old Anatolian Shepard Cross

Tucker is the resident 95lb snuggle bug.  Everyone needs one!  He loves to have little humans around, the smaller the better. He finds baby humans truly fascinating.  When Tucker isn't napping (he naps a lot!), he can be found right by your feet, ensuring himself the ideal spot for loving scratches behind his big floppy ears.

Fergus 10-month-old Corgi

Fergus, AKA The Ferg, lives life with full throttle exuberance.  After and before your equine wellness sessions and during breaks away from the horses, you can connect with Fergus and the rest of the Pup Support Team. They are all down for a good scratch and are exceptional at a variety of yoga asanas, especially downward dog!
