FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Equine Assisted Wellness/Learning?

Equine wellness/learning provides opportunities for human participants to engage with horses in novel ways, meant to enhance and challenge learning in all domains. The learning area becomes a space of human/equine co-creation- and an exercise in inter-species play and creativity. Increasing the potential for joyful, childlike discoveries.
Are programs offered in all types of weather?

Yes! All equine-facilitated wellness/learning at Equine Arts is conducted outdoors, and our horses spend almost all of of their time outside. Providing a learning environment that is as natural as possible and doesn't restrict innate equine behaviours enhances horses' lives; furthermore, it enhances human learning.
Can Equine Arts horses be ridden?

No. At Equine Arts and in most equine-facilitated wellness/learning programs, learning is done on the ground. Within the Prince George area, many groups, organizations, and businesses offer riding lessons, trail riding experiences, and rider coaching and development.
Why aren't you on social media sites? Can I mention my session, take photos of my experiences, and create my own social media posts about Equine Arts?

Equine Arts is a place to practice present-mindedness. In a world with a myriad of self-distraction tools, Equine Arts is a purposefully serene place to disconnect from the digital world. You are welcome to mention Equine Arts in your own social media posts, but you won't find us there. Our only online presence will be our website. While you are here, you will be encouraged to turn off your phone and appreciate your time without it. At the end of your session, you are welcome to take photos/videos with the horses :)
What forms of payment do you accept, and do you provide receipts?

Equine Arts is a small business, and we only accept cash as payment at this time. Yes, we provide receipts.
How do I book my first session and subsequent sessions?

Phone, 780-897-0044. A brief intake will be completed at this time, and general information about what to expect will be provided ahead of your session. Once you arrive at Equine Arts, a comprehensive intake, FOIPPA form, waivers, and a conduct contract will be completed and kept on file for future visits. These forms are valid for a full calendar year, after which time they will need to be reviewed and re-signed. After your first intake session, you can rebook subsequent sessions by text, email, or phone. Please note that due to limited availability and high demand for sessions, if you wish to participate frequently, booking ahead is recommended.
What can I expect at my first session? And what can I expect at subsequent sessions?

Please attend 1/2 an hour before your first session to complete forms, receive a comprehensive introduction to Equine Arts facilities, a safety briefing, and time to answer any specific intake questions you may have.

At all subsequent sessions, a safety briefing and conversation about goal planning for the session will be included in your session time.
Why are participants under the age of 19 required to wear a riding helmet when no riding is involved in programs, and why are independent adults able to sign a waiver that omits them from this requirement, so long as they understand and assume the risk?

Full-size horses have heads that weigh an average of 40 lbs (4 times the weight of the human head), which swing on long necks to take in the sensory stimuli of their world. Injuries to humans, especially those unfamiliar with equine biomechanics, occur on the ground and in the saddle. Helmets help prevent injury.

Independent adults have the choice to sign a waiver, assuming all risks associated with opting out of wearing a helmet.
What should I bring to my session?

Wear close-toed footwear to suit the weather - eg. rainboots in rain, snowboots in snow. Wear comfortable clothing that suits the weather for your outdoor session, which is not precious, and you don't mind it getting dirty or potentially damaged. Bring snacks, water, and anything else that will ensure your comfort and well-being.
